Ordinary Kitchen Utensils Turned Into Extraordinary Sculptures

UK based artist Ann Carrington transforms mundane, non-descript objects into a magnificent piece of art.

The artist, in her sublime series called “Bouquets and Butterflies” breathes new life into kitchen utensils, fusing many spoons, knives, forks and tarnished spatulas into metallic sculptures. She recontextualizes these elements taken from the kitchen and adds on to their value by incorporating them into overflowing bouquets, clumped together to take the form of an exquisite rose, a dainty tulip, complete with their metal made, intricate leaves. The artist uses her compositions to raise awareness on current issues and is an Ambassador of the United Nations. Ann Carrington studied at Bourneville College of Art, Birmingham and The Royal College of Art graduating in 1987. Additionally she had received In 1988 she received The Herbert Read Award, followed by the Commonwealth Fellowship for Sculpture in 1992.
